The Queen of the Cutting Pen

There is one person, for sure, that none of us could live without. No, I'm not talking about your mother -- unless she is also your Show Secretary that is.

Yes, you read correctly. The show secretary is the heartbeat of every cutting I have ever been to. She (or he, I guess) keep the show rolling, help us all understand what class we're to show in, serves as police officer, accountant, record keeper, lawyer, announcer, time keeper, buzzer ringer (all at the same time) and has full authority to put everyone in their place when needed and has the official job of poking fun at each and every person in the building.

Our show secretary never gets to cut, but loves this sport more then most of the riders. She gives a pat on the back when least expected. And is the single person who knows everything you need to know about showing at a cutting. She is appreciated by all, but not always told. And literally, if it weren't for our show secretary, I don't think the show would 'go on'. I've seen her stay up unitl 3, 4 o'clock in the morning because there were still people showing and after only a couple hours sleep be back at the show pen at 7am. Her laugh is a sound that brings a grin to your face even if you don't know what she is laughing about and her smile is a sure sign of approval. She does her best with pronouncing every unique registered horse name and she does an equally terrific job pronouncing the rider's names.

I personally am grateful for our show secretary, Dava Scribner with the Minnesota Cutting Horse Association. How about any one else? What is especially delightful about your club's show secretary? Please email us here at MidwetCuttingHorse.com and tell us your story, or say thank you to your show secretary.
